This tip came by way of Android Forums. I don’t really lurk there but I do scan the topics by way of their RSS feed. Today I came across a thread that while has no proof, is bad news for people buying their phones from Orange in France.
The 1 and only post from ptitfredd states that:
Orange had simply deleted some essential Google applications from the HTC Dream
Here in France, no synchronization with the Google Contacts, nor with Google Calendars. No “IM” application
I have a couple theories if this poster is correct.
1. Orange took a ton of Google branding out including apps.
2. Somehow a nightly build of cupcake has slipped out on a consumer phone?
If this were to be true, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to just root and flash your phone with something like this and kill two birds with one stone. Of course you run the risk of bricking the phone but that is half of the thrill of rooting your phone, seriouslly though, please, don’t blame me when you mess up the boot loader and turn your phone into something that keeps napkins from blowing away.
Also, you might want to figure out how to dump the OS so you can reload it so that if you have to send the phone back you won’t void your warranty. This little tidbit should help with that.
Maybe this is old news but what we have here is a video with a Lil Wayne song. Coincidentally, the video portion shows someone download a paid app, copy it using the developers kit, uninstall the app and refund it, upload the copy to a website and reinstal it to his phone from the browser. Whew…
So basically, someone with a developers kit can be engaging in mass piracy of paid apps for everyone because it appears that you don’t even have to root your phone. I’m sure there will be some sort of fix in the future but for right now it’s the wild wild west.
Yep, just like the title says, the thunderbird IMAP setup on my windows xp home laptop was the first to receive the email. I’m not too sure why that is, but I’m guessing that maybe it’s just that cellular networks are a little slower than my dsl.
Regardless, I still think androids handling of email is the best experience of any phone I’ve used so far and I come from a Blackberry Curve.
Now I realize some guy made 40 grand in 2 days with this, but do we really need ANOTHER fart app? Most of these apps are free or 99 cents. The most expensive one is 1.49. But really, how funny can it be?
At least phones aren’t so advanced that they can admit smell.
